A FOUNDATION IN STORY

Born in 1993 into a family deeply connected to Icelandic arts (my grandfather is actor Magnús Ólafsson), storytelling has been the through-line of my life. From spinning ghost stories as a child to finding my voice on stage and now behind the camera, 

 

I’ve always been driven by the power of narrative to connect, to thrill, and to provoke. This journey has been one of resilience, evolution, and an unwavering passion for creative expression in all its forms.

FROM MUSIC STAGES TO FILM SETS

For over a decade, I was an active force in Iceland’s vibrant arts scene, perhaps most notably as a founding member of the groundbreaking rap collective Reykjavíkurdætur. 

 

My artistic path also led me to a solo music career as Fever Dream, a period that included living and performing in the dynamic city of Berlin and preparing for a US tour before the world shifted in 2020. While music was a powerful outlet, the call to visual storytelling and filmmaking grew undeniable

 

This led me to a new chapter: after several attempts to find the right academic fit, I discovered my place in the pioneering new film department at The Icelandic University of the Arts. I am incredibly proud to be graduating in June 2025 with a BA in Screenwriting, with a secondary specialization in Directing, as part of the program’s very first cohort. This intensive program has not only equipped me with technical skills under the guidance of esteemed Icelandic filmmakers but has also allowed me to crystallize my unique cinematic voice.

 

 

 

My Voice in Film:
The Thrill of Horror & The Unsettling Familiar

My heart in filmmaking beats strongest for the horror genre. I’m fascinated by stories that creep under your skin, that explore the darkness lurking beneath the surface of the familiar – especially within the sacred space of home and family. Influences like Ari Aster’s Hereditary, Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, and classics such as Rosemary’s Baby resonate deeply with me, as does the modern atmospheric dread found in films like It Follows or Smile.

My work aims to do more than just startle; I want to create a lingering sense of unease, drawing on the rich tapestry of Icelandic folklore, the haunting beauty of our landscapes (particularly abandoned farms that whisper tales of broken dreams), and the psychological complexities of human relationships.

Throughout my studies, I’ve written and directed several short films, allowing me to experiment across genres while honing my craft:

Some of these shorts have been fortunate enough to be selected for film festivals. Beyond my own projects, I’ve gained invaluable practical experience working as a 1st and 3rd Assistant Director on various TV series and short film productions, giving me a comprehensive understanding of the collaborative energy required to bring a vision to life.

Current Focus

"BÖRNIN Á SÆVARENDA" (Blood Beneath the Calm)

My BA thesis project, and current primary focus, is the feature-length horror script “BÖRNIN Á SÆVARENDA” (English title: Blood Beneath the Calm). This film is a culmination of five years of development and a story very close to my heart. It’s an Icelandic psychological folk horror about family fate, inherited darkness, and devil worship, following a young woman, Alba, as she uncovers disturbing revelations about her origins and destiny.

Activism & A Fearless Voice​

My journey hasn’t always been straightforward. I’ve been outspoken on issues I care deeply about, particularly as an advocate against sexual violence. While I’ve learned the importance of self-care and stepping back at times, that fire for justice and truth still informs my perspective and the stories I want to tell. This candidness also finds an outlet in my podcast, “Kallaðu mig Howser,” where I explore life’s complexities without a filter.

THE PATH AHEAD

Filmmaking is a marathon, not a sprint, and I’m excited for the journey. My goal is to continue creating, to keep telling stories that challenge, unsettle, and resonate, both in Iceland and internationally. With several feature scripts in development, including comedies and dramas alongside horror, I’m eager to collaborate and bring unique visions to the screen.
